Scheffler completes successful Memorial Tournament defence
Scottie Scheffler spoke of his joy after coming through a final-round tussle against Ben Griffin to successfully defend his Memorial Tournament title.
The victory gave the world number one his third PGA Tour win of the season after he took a one-shot lead into the final day at Muirfield Village, and never relinquished top spot.
Scheffler shot a round of 70 in his final round to register a four-shot victory, becoming the first player since Tiger Woods to win back-to-back editions of the tournament.
He registered three birdies and one bogey to claim the prize, adding to his CJ Cup triumph and the PGA Championship. The win also extends his lead at the top of the world rankings and FedEx Cup.
"Only one bogey around this place is pretty good. I hit a lot of fairways," he said, as quoted by Sky Sports. "I definitely wasn't in the rough very much.
"I think I hit it in the rough on [the 10th], but outside of that, I don't think I was really in the rough at all. So around this place, that's going to be key. I drove the ball really nicely today."

Griffin, meanwhile, played with Scheffler and was within one shot of him for much of the final round, before double-bogeying his penultimate hole.
He ultimately finished four strokes back from Scheffler in second place, with Sepp Straka in third on five under.
"My putter definitely wasn't quite 100% there. I made it exciting there at the end for a couple of holes," Griffin said.
"It's funny, I'd take this finish a year ago, two years ago, three years ago. I'm definitely a little disappointed to not have made it a little bit closer or got it done.
"I'll learn from some of my swings down the stretch, I'll remember some of the good stuff, and I'll bounce back and get right back to it. So overall, a great week, but definitely a little disappointed with second [place]."
