Trabzonspor have confirmed they are in talks to sign Mohamed Salah, who will arrive in Turkiye on Wednesday to finalise his move.

Salah became a free agent at the end of last season, having come to an agreement with Liverpool to end his contract early despite it having 12 months to run.

The Egyptian scored 257 goals for Liverpool in 442 games, with only Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285) ever netting more for the Reds.

Salah is also the Reds' all-time top scorer (191) and assister (93) in the Premier League, which he helped them win in 2019-20 and 2024-25.

The Egyptian also lists the Champions League, the FA Cup, the EFL Cup and the Club World Cup among the eight trophies he won during his time on Merseyside.

Salah has been strongly linked with teams in Saudi Arabia and Turkiye this summer, and Besiktas sporting director Onder Ozen said the Istanbul club had seen their negotiations with the 34-year-old stall due to his representatives' financial demands.

Last weekend, reports suggested Trabzonspor had opened talks with Salah, only for their president, Ertugrul Dogan, to deny that was the case.

Dogan did say, however, that the club would offer an update if a move for Salah materialised, and that has now come to pass.

In a brief post to X, Trabzonspor's club account said: "Negotiations have begun regarding the transfer of professional footballer Mohamed Salah to our club."

In a subsequent update, it was confirmed that Salah will arrive in the city of Trabzon on Wednesday evening to complete his move.

Salah will join a side that finished third in the Super Lig last season and will be involved in the Europa League play-offs this month.

His Super Lig bow could come away to Kasimpasa on August 15, with his home debut potentially coming in the first leg of Trabzonspor's Europa League play-off tie, against an as-yet undecided opponent on August 20.
