Liam Rosenior was pleased with the way his Chelsea team kept plugging away as they battled to a 1-0 victory over Pafos in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea's Cypriot opponents did a fine job in frustrating them on Wednesday, with visiting goalkeeper Jay Gorter producing a string of impressive saves, making six overall, while Enzo Fernandez saw a goal disallowed early on.

However, the Blues eventually made the breakthrough in the 78th minute, with Moises Caicedo rising highest to power a header into the bottom-left corner and seal the triumph.

Indeed, Caicedo's winner was his fourth shot on target of the game – it is the most shots on target he's had in a single match in his Chelsea career in all competitions.

Chelsea are also now one of four teams to win all four home games so far in the Champions League this season, along with Bayern Munich, Sporting CP and Tottenham.

They finished with an expected goals (xG) total of 1.68 from their 21 shots while restricting Pafos to 0.15 xG, the lowest by a team in a Champions League match against Chelsea since October 2021 (Malmo, 0.06).

"You have to keep banging on the door," said Rosenior. "Obviously, you want to get the breakthrough earlier to open up the game.

"I felt it was a harsh decision on Enzo. Maybe he puts his hands on him but in the Premier League it's probably a goal.

"You just have to keep going. There are things I was pleased with, things we need to improve on, but overall we kept going.

"They were making block after block, save after save, and I was delighted for Moi to get the goal and the result we deserved."

And Chelsea's fourth win of the Champions League this season has them in the final automatic qualification spot for the last 16 heading into the final matchday next week.

Rosenior's men are one of eight sides all on 13 points after seven matches, with the Blues making the trip to Stadio Diego Armando Maradona to face Napoli and former boss Antoino Conte.

"Of course you want to score more goals and win by bigger margins, but the reality of our situation is we are in the top eight," Rosenior added.

"If we win, we have a fantastic chance to go through. We have a very difficult game against Crystal Palace on Sunday that we need to prepare for first.

"Then we will assess the game against Napoli and how we go about it. We know it will be a difficult game, but we are not daunted by that prospect."
