RCB overcome Punjab Kings to claim maiden IPL title
Royal Challengers Bengaluru claimed their first ever Indian Premier League title after a six-run victory over the Punjab Kings.
Virat Kohli top-scored for RCB with 43 on the way to securing his - and the franchise's - maiden IPL title in Ahmedabad, where their total of 190-9 eventually proved enough.
A first-time winner of the tournament was guaranteed ahead of the final. RCB were beaten finalists on three occasions, while the Kings lost their only previous showpiece in 2014.
RCB were sent in to bat first and Phil Salt (18), Rajat Patidar (26) and Liam Livingstone (25) all made promising starts, but were each claimed by Kyle Jamieson, who ended with figures of 3-48.
Though not at his fluent best, Kohli notched 43 from 35 balls, while Jitesh Sharma chipped in with a helpful cameo of 24 from 10.
A superb final over from Arshdeep Singh saw him dismiss Romario Shepherd (17), Krunal Pandya (four) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (one) for the loss of just five runs, as RCB set a target of 191.
Though the target was well within reach on a good batting surface, the Kings will have been wary, having been bowled out for just 101 when the sides met in the first qualifier.
Priyansh Arya (24) and Prabhsimran Singh (26) got Punjab off to a decent start in their chase, though the dismissal of Shreyas Iyer for just one took the wind out of their sails at 79-3.
Krunal Pandya was effective with the ball yet again for RCB, squeezing the Kings' batters with an impressive spell of 2-17 from his four overs.
Any hopes of a late surge were severely dented in the 15th when Bhuvneshwar struck twice in the space of three balls to claim Nehal Wadhera (15) and Marcus Stoinis (six).
Despite Shashank Singh's impressive 61 off 30 deliveries - including nine boundaries - it was too little too late, and the contest was mathematically over with five balls to spare, as RCB's 18-year wait for glory officially ended.

Data Debrief: RCB finally enter winner's circle
RCB became the eighth different franchise to be crowned IPL champions since the inaugural edition of the event in 2008.
They did not make it easy for themselves, though, recording the lowest first innings score in Ahmedabad this season.
The Kings had scored over 200 runs on a joint-record eight occasions this term, so they will have been confident of reaching their target ahead of the second innings.
However, they failed to successfully chase their opponents down for only the second time in seven attempts this campaign, and their wait for glory goes on.
