Emma Raducanu breezed into her fourth career semi-final after comfortably beating Maja Chwalinska in straight sets at the Transylvania Open.

After enduring a rollercoaster match in the previous round, Raducanu had no such trouble on Thursday as she cruised to a 6-0 6-4 victory in one hour and 11 minutes.

Raducanu needed just 24 minutes to take the opening set, but Chwalinska roared back in the second set, immediately breaking back in the sixth game of the second.

However, the top seed remained composed and sealed her progression at the first time of asking, volleying a pinpoint forehand at the net to the right baseline.

"I'm very happy with my performance," Raducanu said after the match. "I played a great match from the beginning, and I was so happy to have that start.

"There's always going to be moments of adversity that I need to overcome, and I did that well in the second set, so really proud of how I did that.

"Maja is a really tough opponent, moves so well, has great hand skills, so I'm really happy with how I overcame that challenge."

Raducanu will face Oleksandra Oliynykova for a place in the final.

Elsewhere, at the Abu Dhabi Open, there was no such luck for Raducanu's compatriot Sonay Kartal, who was beaten 6-0 6-2 by Czechia's Sara Bejlek in the quarter-finals.

The shock of the day saw Hailey Baptiste down fifth seed Liudmila Samsonova across three sets, while rising star Alexandra Eala lost to Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Clara Tauson also booked her place in the final four after beating McCartney Kessler 6-3 6-4.

Data Debrief: Raducanu edges closer to standing on the top step again

Raducanu has not won a tournament since her sensational US Open success in 2021, but she delivered a performance worthy of a champion in Romania.

Indeed, the Briton restricted Chwalinska to just seven points in the first set, while overall, she won 75% (18/24) of her first-serve points to her opponents 55% (17/31).

But lurking on the other side of the draw is Anastasia Potapova, who beat Raducanu in the second round of the Australian Open last month.
