Emma Raducanu secured her first win of the season with a straight-sets victory over Camila Osorio at the Hobart International.

The 2021 US Open champion prevailed 6-3 7-6 (7-2) in two hours and 12 minutes, though the match was played over two days as rain delays caused a suspension in play.

Both players showed early signs of struggle on serve after break points were converted in each of the first three games, with two going in the favour of Raducanu.

The Briton then saved three break points at 0-40 down in the eighth game before needing three of her own in the following game to clinch the first.

Osorio was then the beneficiary of more break points early in the second, breaking Raducanu’s serve three times while losing two of her own service games as she led 4-2 before play was halted for the next day.

However, Raducanu recuperated overnight to break back and seal the win in the tiebreak with her second match point.

“Very, very difficult match. We played under all conditions and coming on and off a few times was really difficult,” said Raducanu.

“I don't think I've slept over many matches in between so that was a new one for me.

“I thought Camila played an incredible match. I'm just really pleased with how I came out today and turned it around.”

Raducanu’s second-round opponent, Magdalena Frech, withdrew with an injury, meaning she will now face wildcard Taylah Preston in the quarter-finals.

Elsewhere, reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys progressed to the last eight at the Adelaide International with a 6-4 6-1 win against 18-year-old Tereza Valentova.

Data Debrief: Second serve makes the difference

There were a total of 21 break points on offer across the two sets played between Raducanu and Osorio, highlighting both players’ struggles with their serve.

And there was little to separate them on first serve points, with Raducanu winning 57.1% to Osorio’s 52.9%, but the latter won just 32.3% of her second serve points to Raducanu’s 50%.

Osorio made seven double faults to Raducanu’s three, with those mistakes proving costly for the Colombian in the end.
