Italy's "best midfielder" Sandro Tonali would be a perfect fit for Juventus, so says Miralem Pjanic.

Tonali joined Newcastle United from AC Milan in 2023, and despite serving a long ban due to a breach of betting regulations, the 25-year-old has established himself as one of the standout midfielders in the Premier League.

Since Tonali returned from his ban in the early part of last season, he has featured 70 times in all competitions for Newcastle, scoring six goals and providing seven assists.

This season, Tonali ranks third in Newcastle's squad for open-play shot-ending sequence involvements in the league, with 50, behind Bruno Guimaraes (76) and Jacob Murphy (56).

And former Bianconeri playmaker Pjanic believes Tonali is exactly the level of player Juve need to sign.

In an interview with Tuttosport, Pjanic quipped: "They need something in the middle of the park. Somebody like Pjanic would help."

He continued: "But I've retired now, so I'll just enjoy my kid and be a father. I have no doubts, I'd sign Sandro Tonali right away. He'd be the perfect element.

"This Juventus side need somebody like him in the middle of the park. Tonali has strength, personality; he reads the game well and knows how to build up from the back.

"It would be a great coup for Juventus. As of today, he's the best Italian midfielder."

Juve have picked up form as of late and are only four points adrift of Serie A leaders Inter.

Pjanic is not surprised at their turnaround under Luciano Spalletti.

He said: "The Juventus comeback does not surprise me at all. On the contrary, I can say that I expected it after Spalletti's arrival. Luciano makes the difference at this level.

"Juventus are improving game after game, so they should not set limits for themselves. All the top sides are quite close in the table, and when you play for Juventus, you must always aim for the top."
