Packers blank Saints to clinch NFL playoff spot
The Green Bay Packers are again headed to the playoffs after registering the first shutout of the 2024 NFL season, a 34-0 trouncing of the over-matched New Orleans Saints on Monday.
Green Bay (11-4) dominated from start-to-finish to secure a spot in the playoffs for the fifth time in head coach Matt LaFleur's six seasons. The Packers out-gained the Saints by a 404-196 advantage in total yards while posting their first shutout since a 17-0 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 14, 2021.
Josh Jacobs, Chris Brooks and Emanuel Wilson all scored rushing touchdowns in the rout, while Jordan Love threw a touchdown pass to Dontayvion Wicks while completing 16 of 28 throws for 182 yards.
New Orleans (5-10) was dealt a second straight loss while generating little production from an offence that was missing starting quarterback Derek Carr, leading rusher Alvin Kamara and several wide receivers due to injuries.
Spencer Rattler filled in for Carr but struggled in his fourth career NFL start - all of which have been losses. The rookie completed just 15 of 30 passes for 153 yards and was intercepted once.

The Packers got all the points they needed after marching 63 yards in 10 plays on the game's opening drive, which Love capped with a 2-yard touchdown pass to Wicks just over six minutes in.
Green Bay also reached the end zone on its second possession, a mammoth 17-play, 96-yard series that consumed nearly nine minutes. Jacobs finished the drive with a 2-yard run early in the second quarter for his career-high 13th rushing touchdown of the season.
Brooks made it 21-0 later in the quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run that ended a six-play sequence highlighted by Love's 30-yard pass to tight end Tucker Kraft.
New Orleans' offence continued to stall during the second half as a pair of Brandon McManus field goals pushed Green Bay's lead to 27-0 midway through the fourth quarter.
Love was removed from the game late in favour of backup Malik Willis, whose 34-yard pass to Jayden Reed helped set up Wilson's 1-yard touchdown run with 2:41 left.
