Newcastle bolster midfield options with Steur addition
Newcastle United have announced the signing of teenager Sean Steur from Ajax.
The Dutch midfielder has signed a five-year deal at St. James' Park, and is the Magpies' third summer signing following the arrivals of Ewen Jaouen and Bazoumana Toure.
The 18-year-old broke into the Ajax first team last season and made 19 appearances, scoring and assisting once as they finished fifth in the Eredivisie.
Among midfielders who were aged 18 or younger in the Eredivisie at the start of the 2025-26 campaign, Steur ranked first for chances created (15), total carries (231) and duel success (56.8%).
He ranked second for passing accuracy (89.7%), tackles (20), possession won (49) and duels won (46).
"It’s an incredible feeling to be here. It’s a giant club in the Premier League and it was always my dream to play in the best league in the world, so this is really exciting," Steur told the club website.

"I was at home at Ajax – I joined when I was seven and I leave with only good memories, but when a club like Newcastle comes for you, it’s really hard to say no. The last few days have gone fast and I’m very happy to join.
"I’m a player who likes to get on the ball and play forward all the time. I’m happy playing between the lines and I feel I have a lot of energy in my game. I just want to win."
Newcastle have a difficult start to the 2026-27 Premier League season, hosting Liverpool in their opener on August 23 before tough fixtures against Tottenham and Bournemouth.
Steur could prove to be a crucial addition to the Magpies' midfield, with Sandro Tonali joining Tottenham earlier in the window and Bruno Guimaraes reportedly seeking a move to Arsenal.
