Mensik and Machac seal Czech double in Auckland and Adelaide
Jakub Mensik and Tomas Machac ensured a Czech double by capping their Australian Open preparations with respective title wins in Auckland and Adelaide on Saturday.
Mensik overcame Sebastian Baez 6-3 7-6 (9-7) in the final of the ASB Classic in New Zealand for his second ATP Tour title, following his breakout triumph in Miami last year.
And later in the day, compatriot Machac followed in his footsteps with a hard-earned 6-4 6-7 (2-7) 6-2 success over Ugo Humbert in the Adelaide International showpiece.
It was also Machac's second title win on the tour, having won the Mexican Open almost 12 months ago, and it catapults him up 11 spots in the ATP world rankings, to 24th.
"I kept my focus in the third set and kept the level of my tennis very high. I started to play a little more aggressively and served well," Machac said afterwards.
"I am very glad that after my injuries, I can be in this moment with the trophy and with a great level of tennis."

Data Debrief: Czech this out
Mensik and Machac's victories made it a great day for tennis fans in Czechia, and they will now hope at least one of the two men can make a deep run at the Australian Open.
It is the first time two Czech men have clinched tour-level titles in the same week since Ivan Lendl and Tomas Smid did so in 1982.
Mensik is seeded 16th for the first grand slam of the year and takes on Spain's Pablo Carreno Busta in the first round, while Machac faces a tough first-round task, going up against former world number three Grigor Dimitrov.
