Daniil Medvedev struck 23 aces en route to a 7-5 6-4 success over compatriot Andrey Rublev in the final of the Hangzhou Open on Monday.

Medvedev triumphed in 93 minutes to claim his third ATP title of the year and his first since February, having lifted trophies in Brisbane and Dubai in the season's early stages.

Medvedev passed up break point opportunities in each of Rublev's first two service games, with the match staying on serve until game 11.

It was the world number eight who got that break, and after serving out the first set with minimal fuss, he also opened the second with another break.

Rublev was held at arm's length from that moment on, with Medvedev winning 81% of his first-serve points (17/21) and saving the only two break points he faced – both in game six – to capture the title.  

"There is always a tiny bit more on the line," Medvedev said of facing his close friend Rublev afterwards. 

"I think I handled it well. I played well in the important moments and I'm really happy with my level."

In Tuesday's other final in China, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina overcame Hubert Hurkacz 6-4 7-6 (9-7) to win the Chengdu Open, marking a perfect return to action after being sidelined with a back issue since July's Croatia Open.

Medvedev continues to climb hard-court charts

Each of Medvedev's three ATP Tour titles in 2026 have come on hard courts, taking him to 22 successes on the surface for his career.

He is now joint-11th in the Open Era charts for hard-court ATP titles, having surpassed Andy Roddick (21) outright to go level with John McEnroe, Stefan Edberg and Michael Chang.

Jannik Sinner is 10th on that list with 23 such titles, with Rod Laver and Rafael Nadal each boasting 25.

Medvedev will hope Tuesday's triumph sets him up well for the China Open, having been seeded third and handed an opening matchup with Pablo Carreno Busta in Beijing.
