Medvedev claims Dubai title after injured Griekspoor withdraws
Daniil Medvedev has claimed the Dubai Tennis Championships title without a ball being hit in the final after Tallon Griekspoor withdrew through injury.
Griekspoor sustained a hamstring injury during his straight-sets semi-final win over Andrey Rublev on Friday, having landed awkwardly following a serve.
He was unable to recover in time for the showpiece match, resulting in a walkover.
As such, Medvedev has claimed his 23rd ATP-Tour-level title, with this being the first time he has won the same event twice, having previously triumphed in Dubai in 2023.
It is also his 21st title on hard courts, the joint-second most on the surface (level with Jannik Sinner) behind Novak Djokovic's 72.
The world number 11's second title of 2026 – following his victory in Brisbane last month – means he is now just 45 points behind Alexander Bublik in the rankings as he looks to return to the top 10 for the first time since June 2025.
