Mavericks All-Star Irving reportedly suffers season-ending torn ACL
Kyrie Irving's season is over after the Dallas Mavericks All-Star guard reportedly suffered a torn ACL in his left knee.
The severity of the injury was first reported Tuesday by Shams Charania of ESPN.
The injury occurred in the first quarter of Monday's 122-98 loss to the Sacramento Kings, when Irving was driving to the basket and his left leg appeared to buckle as he lifted off the ground to attempt a layup. He fell to the ground and immediately called for a trainer.
Despite being unable to put much weight on his left leg, he briefly stayed in the game to shoot two free throws before being helped off the court to the locker room.

Irving, 32, leads the Mavericks with averages of 24.7 points and 4.6 assists in 50 games this season and was named to his ninth All-Star game last month. He is shooting 40.1 per cent from 3-point range and averages 2.9 made 3-pointers per game.
Acquired by Dallas from the Brooklyn Nets in February 2023, Irving has averages of 23.7 points, 5.6 assists and 4.1 rebounds in his 14-year NBA career.
His injury is the latest blow for the Mavericks, whose season is slipping away less than a year after the team played in the NBA Finals.
Dereck Lively III, Daniel Gafford and the recently acquired Anthony Davis are also side-lined for Dallas, which is 6-6 since trading five-time All-Star point guard Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers for Davis a month ago.
Prior to Monday, Irving averaged 39.3 minutes in the 10 games he played since the Doncic trade - the most minutes by any NBA player over that stretch.
With Monday's loss, the Mavericks dropped to 32-30. They are in 10th place in the Western Conference, one game back of the Minnesota Timberwolves and 3 1/2 games ahead of the Phoenix Suns for the final spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament.
