Manchester United 4-4 Aston Villa: Dorgu saves Carrick's men in remarkable comeback
Manchester United launched an incredible stoppage-time comeback to draw 4-4 with Aston Villa at Old Trafford, though they will still spend the international break inside the Premier League's relegation zone.
On the weekend that the Red Devils celebrated the 40-year anniversary of Alex Ferguson's arrival, they were dropped into the bottom three by Nottingham Forest's 3-1 win over Manchester City – the first time they had sat below the dotted line at this stage of a season in 40 years.
Having seen Alysson and Nicolas Jackson strike within the first four minutes for Villa, Carrick's men produced a stirring response to go into half-time at 2-2, with Bruno Fernandes converting a penalty and Youri Tielemans scoring against his former club.
And the second half followed a similarly dramatic script, as John McGinn and Leon Goretzka gave Villa another two-goal lead they could not defend.
Patrick Dorgu teed up fellow substitute Joshua Zirkzee to make it 4-3 in the second minute of stoppage time, before the full-back provoked wild celebrations with a last-gasp header, providing some respite for under-fire United boss Michael Carrick.

Only 59 seconds were on the clock when Villa landed the first blow, as Alysson's strike from the right side of the area squirmed in through the legs of Senne Lammens.
And United were 2-0 down when Lammens parried another Alysson shot straight to Jackson for a tap-in, with the home fans starting to turn on their own players.
But if Carrick feared his players would wilt, that was not the case as United came roaring back. They made it 2-1 through Fernandes' 13th-minute spot-kick, after Boubacar Kamara chopped Matheus Cunha down, and Zion Suzuki then made big saves to thwart Cunha and Amad Diallo.
And United drew level in the 44th minute, as Suzuki was unable to keep Tielemans' side-footed finish out, following good work from Noussair Mazraoui on the right-hand side.
However, Villa did have one final chance to go back in front before the interval, via Alysson, who then helped them make another rapid start to the second half. He cut inside Diogo Dalot and was tripped, allowing McGinn to fire past Lammens from the spot in the 48th minute.
And five minutes later, Villa had a two-goal cushion again. McGinn's deep free-kick was headed against his own crossbar by Leny Yoro, and though Jackson could not make the follow-up count, it was third time lucky for the visitors as Goretzka volleyed home.
It looked as though Unai Emery's side would cruise over the finish line, but after Mason Mount hit the woodwork, Zirkee swept Dorgu's centre past Suzuki to make things interesting.
And in the sixth added minute, Dorgu rose highest to meet Fernandes' inswinging corner with Suzuki caught in no man's land, prompting a furious response from Emery on the touchline.

United come back from the dead in unprecedented fightback
United showcased their powers of recovery to beat Roma 3-2 from 2-0 down in the Champions League on Tuesday, but this game twice looked to be beyond them, following dreadful starts to both halves.
Alysson's goal was just the third United have ever conceded in the first minute of a Premier League match at Old Trafford, after going down early against Manchester City in March 2014 and Leeds United in February 2023.
And, after three minutes and 40 seconds, it was the earliest the Red Devils have ever fallen 2-0 behind in a Premier League game.

United did recover to go into half-time level, the first time they have ever done so after going 2-0 down in the first 45 minutes of a Premier League game, with Tielemans haunting his former club – he became the first ex-Villa player to score against them in the league since Cameron Archer for Sheffield United in December 2023.
It took United just seven minutes and 15 seconds to concede two goals in the second half, though, with Gortetzka's strike being the 30th they have shipped across all competitions this season – no team from Europe's top five leagues has conceded more.
However, the Red Devils did something no team has previously accomplished in Premier League history – come from two goals behind to draw level twice in the same game.
Emery was livid with his team's failure to hold on, with Dorgu's late heroics ruining his 200th match as a Premier League manager. The Spaniard has still failed to win an away game against United in the competition, in 10 attempts (D4 L6).
