Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Spain defender Dean Huijsen, who will arrive from Bournemouth after the end of the Premier League season next week.

Huijsen has enjoyed a fine debut campaign in England, having arrived from Juventus in a £12.6million deal last year.

He was nominated for the Premier League's Young Player of the Season award earlier this week, having made 30 league appearances for Andoni Iraola's team this campaign.

Huijsen, who made his senior Spain debut in March, was reportedly attracting interest from Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle United, but Madrid have moved swiftly to bring him to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Madrid activated a €59.5m (£50m) release clause in Huijsen's contract with Bournemouth, who will allow him to join up with his new club ahead of the revamped Club World Cup.

Huijsen has signed a five-year contract with Madrid, who are also expected to appoint Xabi Alonso as their new head coach ahead of the tournament in the United States.

Madrid will face Al-Hilal, Pachuca and Salzburg in the group stage of the tournament, with their opening game against the Saudi Arabian side taking place in Miami on June 18.

Huijsen's arrival comes with several Madrid defenders sidelined with injuries.

Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao are not expected to return until next season after suffering anterior cruciate ligament tears, while Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba and Ferland Mendy are all battling to be fit for the Club World Cup.

Huijsen has averaged 4.1 progressive passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League this term, the third-most among all centre-backs to play at least 1,500 minutes in the competition.

He has also helped Bournemouth keep seven clean sheets, and they remain in the running for Conference League qualification with matches against Manchester City and Leicester City to come next week.
