London City Lionesses captain Asllani signs one-year contract extension
London City Lionesses have confirmed captain Kosovare Asllani has put pen to paper on a contract extension with the club until 2027.
Asllani is currently sidelined with what London City described as a "complex multi-ligament injury", including an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture from last season.
The 36-year-old sustained the injury in a Women's Super League match against West Ham, and she is expected to be out for most of the 2026-27 campaign.
However, London City have opted to hand the Sweden international a one-year extension, with Asllani having played a pivotal role in their promotion to the WSL.
She made 19 top-flight appearances last season, scoring twice and providing three assists, while also netting London City's first WSL goal against Arsenal on the opening day.
"History is constantly being written at this club," Asllani said.
"To have been part of it from the very start, to have believed when some did not, and to see what we’ve achieved in just two years is the most inspiring part of this journey.
"Helping pave the path, earning promotion to the WSL in our first season and seeing the club continue to grow makes me incredibly proud.
"What excites me even more is the future. I want young girls to dream of playing for London City Lionesses.
"I want this badge to represent ambition, opportunity, and the belief that anything is possible. This is where the future of the women's game is being shaped.
"Where history is being written, barriers are broken, and dreams and ambitions have no limits."
We are delighted to confirm that Kosovare Asllani has signed a contract extension until the summer of 2027

Asllani joined London City from AC Milan two years ago and helped the club finish sixth in what was their first season in the WSL in 2025-26.
Michele Kang, London City's billionaire owner, has stressed the desire for the team to compete in Europe next campaign, and they have made some fine additions this summer in order to try and achieve that.
Two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas and Mapi Leon have both swapped Barcelona for London City following the expiration of their contracts this summer.
Former England goalkeeper Mary Earps has also joined, alongside Germany forward Nicole Anyomi and Denmark defender Janni Thomsen.
