Ronald Araujo was left surprised by the "pure intensity" of the Premier League after making his first few appearances for Liverpool.

The defender joined the Reds on loan from Barcelona this summer and has featured off the bench against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, with both games ending in 2-2 draws.

Liverpool are only the second Premier League side to start a campaign with back-to-back 2-2 draws, along with Everton in 2014-15.

The Reds have failed to win either of their opening two Premier League games in a season (D2) for only the second time in the last 14 seasons, also doing so in 2022-23, when they started with two draws.

Across his two appearances, which have totalled just 33 minutes, Araujo has won four of his nine duels, including three of his five aerial battles.

The 27-year-old admitted the physicality of the Premier League caught him off guard, while explaining the difference between the English top flight and LaLiga.

"From the moment I pulled on this Liverpool shirt, I realised what the Premier League is all about," Araujo told Foot Mercato.

"The pace is on another level entirely: it’s pure intensity, heavy physical duels, and you don't get a second to think.

"Coming off the bench in these first few matches against the likes of Newcastle and Forest, you quickly realise that you have to be at 100 per cent the second your boots touch the pitch.

"Don't get me wrong, you can never disrespect La Liga. It's a league defined by incredible tactics and technical brilliance, and winning titles there taught me a lot.

"But the Premier League is on another level when it comes to raw physical power and sheer pace.

"I honestly believe that if a defender can establish himself in this environment, if he can assert himself, survive the weekly battles, and thrive in England, he could return to La Liga and absolutely dominate without any trouble.

"Every minute I spend here is a fight, and I’m ready to fight for my place at Anfield."
