Liverpool 0-0 London City Lionesses: Spoils shared on Maestre's WSL debut
London City Lionesses began the Eder Maestre era by playing out a drab 0-0 draw with struggling Liverpool in the Women's Super League on Sunday.
Both sides impressed in defence at St Helens Stadium, but it was in the final third where they faltered, with neither team able to register a shot on target in the contest.
The clearest opportunity in the first half fell to Liverpool after a mistake by London City goalkeeper Elene Lete, who recovered well as Ceri Holland closed in to dispossess her.
Gareth Taylor's side looked the more likely to alter the scoreboard, with Alice Bergstrom's attempted chip from the edge of the box almost catching Lete off her line.
Bergstrom again came close but was denied by a heroic block from Elena Linari, before Holland blazed over the crossbar following a swift Liverpool counter-attack.
Liverpool remain at the foot of the table and still without a win this season, while the Lionesses sit seventh.

Data Debrief: Liverpool's wait for a win goes on
This game will not be remembered fondly by both sets of supporters, with the contest producing a combined expected goals (xG) total of just 0.58 (0.41 for Liverpool to London City's 0.17) from the nine attempts in the match.
It means another game has ticked by without a win for the Reds. Only Reading in 2016 (13), Everton in 2014 (failed to win all 14), Doncaster Rovers Belles in 2016 (15) and Yeovil Town in 2017-18 (failed to win all 18) have waited longer for their first win in a WSL campaign.
Meanwhile, only Jamie Sherwood with Yeovil (26 matches) and Kelly Chambers with Reading (13) have started a managerial tenure with a club on a worse stretch in WSL history than Liverpool boss Taylor.
