Liberty star Jones to miss up to six weeks due to ankle injury
The New York Liberty will be without 2024 WNBA Finals MVP Jonquel Jones for up to six weeks.
Jones, who was named the WNBA MVP in 2021, suffered an ankle sprain during the Liberty's 89-81 loss to the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday.
Having previously injured the same ankle, her right, earlier in June, the 31-year-old compounded the issue and will now be out for at least a month.
That makes her a doubt for the WNBA All-Star Weekend, which takes place on July 18 and 19.
Jonquel Jones suffered a right ankle sprain at 8:35 in the second quarter of Thursday night’s game against Phoenix. Jones previously sprained her right ankle on Thursday, June 5 against Washington.

"After further imaging and evaluation, Jonquel avoided long-term injury," the Liberty said in a statement on Saturday.
"She is projected to return to game action in approximately four-to-six weeks."
Jones has averaged 12.1 points, 2.3 assists and 9.6 rebounds per game for the Liberty this season.
