Ethan Ampadu believes there are exciting times ahead for Leeds United after putting pen to paper on a new four-year deal with the club on Thursday.

Ampadu, who joined Leeds from Chelsea in 2023, was out of contract at the end of next season, but he has chosen to remain at Elland Road until at least 2030.

The 25-year-old has made 126 appearances in all competitions for Leeds, scoring three goals as well as providing three assists.

He led the club to promotion from the Championship in 2024-25, while also helping Daniel Farke's side retain their Premier League status after they finished 14th in the table.

Ampadu won more tackles (53), won more duels (214) and completed more passes (1,753) than any other Leeds player in all competitions last season,

Speaking to the club's website after signing the new deal, Ampadu said: "It is very exciting times, and I am very pleased to have it sorted and out of the way.

"And now we can concentrate on hopefully building on what has been, especially the last two years, something very positive.

"We obviously knew that starting from the Championship the aim was to get promoted. We always had the ambition that we were going to achieve that.

"So, to have the second year and become champions and enjoy that with the whole city was amazing.

"And then, especially last year, to be one of the teams to stay up for the first couple of seasons was massive. That was the target."

Ampadu started all 35 of his Premier League appearances for Leeds in 2025-26, while only Brenden Aaronson (37) appeared in more top-flight matches for Leeds.

The Wales international scored once, which was his first Premier League goal on what was his 41st appearance in the competition in a 4-1 win over Crystal Palace in December.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds about the new deal for the club captain, club chairman Paraag Marathe said: "It is great to have our captain locked up and here.

"He represents everything we want on and off the pitch and I think it's a great signal to the market, in advance to the transfer window as well, about what we're about as a club."
