Taylor Fritz’s straight-sets win against Alexander Zverev clinched Laver Cup victory for Team World.

Fritz followed up his win against Carlos Alcaraz on Saturday with a 6-3 7-6 (7-4) victory over Zverev, seeing Team World secure a 15-9 victory.

Team Europe had it all to do on the final day as they trailed 9-3, but Alcaraz and Casper Ruud got them off to the perfect start as they beat Alex Michelsen and Reilly Opelka 7-6 (7-4) 6-1 to half the deficit.

However, Alex De Minaur restored Team World’s six-point lead after he got the better of Jakub Mensik, winning 6-3 6-4 against the Czech player.

Alcaraz was determined to make up for his defeat to Fritz a day earlier and redeemed himself with a dominant 6-2 6-1 triumph over Francisco Cerundolo.

The world number one’s victory meant Team World led 12-9 in the first-to-13 event, and Fritz was able to take his side over the line against Zverev.

“Just seeing these guys on the bench getting pumped up, seeing a legend of the sport like Andre jumping out of his seat cheering for me, it's impossible not to be so fired up and just give it everything you have,” said Fritz.

“We're going to have a fun night. Definitely popping some champagne in the locker room in a few minutes.”

Data Debrief: Fritz upsets crucial for Team World

Following his wins over Alcaraz and Zverev, Fritz became the first player in the event’s history to claim multiple ATP top-five wins at a single edition of the Laver Cup.

Fritz also became the first American player to claim a singles win at the Laver Cup on American soil (now 1-8), and the second player to defeat the world number one at the Laver Cup after John Isner beat Rafael Nadal in 2017.

Fritz is the only player to be a part of each of Team World’s tournament victories at the Laver Cup – 2022, 2023 and 2025 – while this was the first time the team trailing after day one have gone on to win the competition.
