Iyer's maiden T20I century earns India emphatic win over West Indies
Shreyas Iyer's first T20I century was the difference as India clinched a dominant eight-wicket win over West Indies in the first encounter of their five-match series on Tuesday.
Iyer's unbeaten knock of 102 came from just 43 deliveries, with India cruising to their target of 172 with 32 balls remaining after debutant Naman Dhir starred with the ball in hand.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bowl first, though they had to wait until the fifth over to claim their first wicket, with Kamil Pooran dismissed by Arshdeep Singh for 12.
Shimron Hetmyer (5) and Rovman Powell (0) were then sent on their way in quick succession before opener Shai Hope (52) saw his innings ended by Dhir soon after.
West Indies' hopes then rested on the shoulders of Sherfane Rutherford, who plundered 56 from 34 deliveries, but the wickets continued to tumble around him.
Roston Chase (5), Romario Shepherd (7), Matthew Forde (2) and Shamar Springer (9) all struggled at the crease, the latter falling to Dhir, who finished with figures of 3-31.
The tourists finished with a total of 171 after Rutherford and Akeal Hosein (15) were dismissed late on, though India lost both Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma early on.
Samson (11) was caught and bowled by Hosein before Abhishek (21) soon followed, but that was about as good as it got for West Indies, with Iyer and Ishan Kishan impressing.
Iyer brought up his century in some style, smashing a six off Roston Chase's delivery, with the India captain fittingly sealing the win with a single, as Kishan finished with 37.

Iyer's India reel off another T20I win
Speaking after the victory, Iyer said it was a dream come true to notch his maiden T20I hundred for India, and he believes the current form of his team can make them one of the most feared teams in the shortest format.
"After the exhausting trip, I didn't realise where I was. Every day, I need to wake up like this! Bowling first helped us a lot. We just didn't look at jetlag as an excuse," Iyer said.
"We saw the excitement of India against West Indies in the ODIs and how amazing that was. It was important to stick to the process. I was thinking about my first century and dreams do come true. Overall, it was a comprehensive performance. If we continue with the same mindset, we will be one of the most destructive teams in T20."
Iyer's fantastic knock saw him become only the third Indian captain to score a century in a T20I for the nation, while it is now 10 consecutive wins in the format for India, who will turn their attention to the second match of the series on Friday in Ranchi.
