'It's always been my dream' – Holmberg signs for Arsenal on long-term deal
Arsenal have bolstered their defence with the addition of Sweden defender Smilla Holmberg on a long-term contract.
The 19-year-old joins the Women's Super League giants from Hammarby, where she graduated from the academy.
Holmberg made 96 appearances for Hammarby's senior team after moving up through the ranks, winning the league and cup double in 2023, then lifting the Damallsvenskan title again in 2025.
She also scored 10 goals for the team from right-back and has earned nine caps for Sweden, reaching the quarter-finals with her country at Euro 2025.

"It's always been my dream to play for Arsenal," said Holmberg.
"This is a very special moment for me and my family.
"It's also about joining a club with the highest standards and a strong winning culture. My ambitions align with the club's, and I want to help win silverware here."
Holmberg is Arsenal's first signing of the January transfer window, though they have not disclosed the length of her deal.
The Gunners, who sit third in the WSL table, return to league action on Saturday when they face fourth-place Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium.
