Andoni Iraola said Liverpool must do much more in attack following their 0-0 draw with Fulham, as he refused to blame a busy schedule for the Reds' lacklustre display.

There was nothing to split the sides at Anfield as Liverpool played out their third draw in four Premier League games under Iraola on Saturday.

The Reds struggled to create clear-cut chances, with a Victor Munoz header and an Alexis Mac Allister piledriver the only real occasions on which they troubled Bernd Leno.

They had 14 shots to Fulham's 10 and edged the expected goals (xG) battle by 1.13 to 0.71, but both Gonzalo Garcia and Josh King went close at the other end as the visitors tested a shaky Liverpool backline.

Liverpool have now drawn four consecutive Premier League games at Anfield dating back to last season, the first time they have done so since November 2011, under Kenny Dalglish.

They have also failed to score in the first half of three consecutive home Premier League games for the first time since April 2021 (run of eight).

"When you draw, especially at home, you can't be happy," Iraola told BBC Match of the Day. "We lacked a bit of freshness, and we did not do enough offensively to make the difference.

"We were good enough to keep the clean sheet, and it was slightly better in the second half. In the first half we started the game slowly, we lacked energy and it was not enough – we have to be better, offensively."

Iraola was then asked if the quick turnaround from Wednesday's Champions League win over Atletico Madrid was to blame, but he refused to use that as an excuse, with an EFL Cup tie against Tottenham also coming up on Tuesday as the games come thick and fast.

"It was less than three days, 60 hours, and a lot of players had to adapt," Iraola said. "Most of the changes were for physical reasons because the players were tired. 

"But that is the season, and in less than three days we will be here against Spurs. We have to adapt and find ways to win."

Bradley Barcola made his first Premier League start since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain in a £123m deal, but aside from an early chance he created for Alexander Isak, the France international was kept quiet.

His 32 touches were the third-fewest by a Liverpool starter, with only Isak (16) and Munoz (23) having fewer, and Garcia (27) was the only player in the Fulham XI to have less.

Iraola is confident his form will improve as he builds up fitness, though, saying: "Bradley is one we are building up physically with games, and the games will put him in the condition we want. 

"But it is not just Bradley, we lack freshness. I only remember one clear chance for Fulham and we kept the structure, but offensively we need to do much better."

Fulham, meanwhile, finally have their first point on the board under Alvaro Arbeloa, having suffered three straight defeats in a worrying start to the season.

And the Spaniard feels the result will foster belief among their squad, telling reporters: "We worked so hard this week, and I'm so happy, just not for the point, but for how my players played.

"At the end of the day, the most important thing is how many points you have. It's not about how well you play, how nice you play, how many chances you have, if you deserve more. It's about how many points you have, and we know that.

"And I think this one is going to be important for us to believe in our idea. And of course, we need to keep improving."
