India shook off pressure of record ODI chase after powerplay, says Gill
Shubman Gill says he felt like the pressure was off India after a strong powerplay as they went on to record a stunning eight-wicket win over West Indies.
Gill was at the heart of India's ODI victory, scoring a career-best 223 not out to help the Men in Blue chase down West Indies' record 405-7 with 39 balls to spare.
After posting their highest-ever total in 50-over cricket, West Indies looked to be favourites to win the contest.
John Campbell (101), Shai Hope (104) and Amir Jangoo (114) all scored centuries to put India under some serious pressure – it is only the sixth time in ODI history that a team has three players score 100+ in one innings.
But India rose to the occasion, with Rohit Sharma (101) and Gill putting together a 255-run partnership for the first wicket.

Gill brought up his century off 62 balls and got his 200 just 55 balls later, plundering 26 fours and eight sixes.
Virat Kohli also added 29, while Ruturaj Gaikwad posted an unbeaten 31 to their 406-2 total, completing their biggest-ever chase in ODIs and giving India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
"[Rohit Sharma and I] had a target in the powerplay that if we get around 75-80 runs without losing any wicket, that would be a good start," Gill, who scored his second double-century in ODIs, told the broadcasters after the game.
"We thought initially the [new] ball might do a bit... once the ball gets old, the wicket would get much better to bat on.
"One side [of the outfield] was very short, so we thought we're going to target that side whenever the fast bowlers came on. And at about 25 overs, I thought if we are around 200-210 [runs], we'll be in a good space. But I think we were around 230-240 [250].
"I think after [India's] powerplay, the pressure never really was on us; it was more on them. And we didn't lose any wickets up until halfway through our innings. So, that was a great bonus for us."
