Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer said he could barely sleep after booking their spot in the Indian Premier League final against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

The Kings finished top of the league table but lost the first to RCB, which saw them enter the second eliminator against the Mumbai Indians.

Shreyas scored an unbeaten 87 off 41 balls to help his side beat the five-time champions and have an opportunity to win their maiden IPL title.

The skipper, who was struggling to sleep after his brilliant knock, said he was happy with his innings, but the next match is what counts.

"I couldn't sleep. I only got four hours of sleep [on Sunday], and here I am," Shreyas said.

"I went to my room, and the next thing I know, I'm here doing the press conference.

"Once my eyes were set, it was all about flow and trusting my instincts, but I didn't feel like celebrating - the job is only half done.

"This is the game that matters, it's about staying in the moment - and we're brimming with positivity."

Shreyas also mentioned the role of head coach Ricky Ponting in their road to the finals, praising his calm presence and equal treatment of players.

Shreyas added: "Ricky Ponting is an amazing coach who manages the players precisely. One thing that stands out with him is that he treats every player equally. That's a real big boost to every individual, whether he is a junior or senior.

"I have never seen his emotions going up and down regardless of the result. That's the sign of a great coach. And the assertive thoughts that he provides with his speeches before and after the game, that gives us immense boost.

"After the game, we are always excited to listen to him, and it's simply phenomenal to work with him."

The final between Punjab and RCB will take place on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
