Lewis Hamilton was scathing in his assessment of his "terrible" performance at the Spanish Grand Prix, suggesting it was his "worst race" yet.

The seven-time world champion climbed to fourth in the standings early in the race, after qualifying in fifth, though was later overtaken by team-mate Charles Leclerc, who was significantly faster, and Nico Hulkenberg.

Following his sixth-placed finish, Hamilton is also sixth in the drivers' championship, 115 points behind leader Oscar Piastri, and his frustration was evident.

"That was the worst race I've experienced, balance wise," Hamilton said, as quoted by ESPN. "[I had no rear grip] for pretty much the whole race. I have no idea why it was so bad."

When asked if there were any positives about his afternoon in Barcelona, the 40-year-old replied: "Zero." When asked where he goes from here, he said: "Home."

While much was hoped for Hamilton's move to Ferrari, it has not yet gone to plan. While Ferrari are second in the constructors' championship, Hamilton is yet to finish on a podium or even get close to McLaren.

"Just not a great day," he told Sky Sports. "[The] strategy was good; [the] team did a great job. I've had a really bad day and have nothing to say. It was a difficult day. There's nothing else to add to it. It was terrible."

When asked if the team would be able to find some answers, Hamilton replied: "I'm sure they won't."
