Australia all-rounder Cameron Green has become the most expensive overseas signing in Indian Premier League history.

The Kolkata Knight Riders paid 25.2 crore (£2.1m) for Green at the 2026 auction, beating out the Rajasthan Royals and the Chennai Super Kings, with the bid breaking the previous record set in 2023.

KKR had previously paid 24.75 cr for Australia's Mitchell Starc at the 2024 auction.

Green, who missed the 2025 season after undergoing back surgery, is also the third most expensive player in IPL history.

Rishabh Pant set the record last year in his 27 cr move to the Lucknow Super Giants, surpassing the 26.75 cr that had been paid for Shreyas Iyer by the Punjab Kings earlier in the day.

Green was sold in the capped batters category and returned to action as a specialist batter in June, though he is being used as an all-rounder by Australia in the ongoing Ashes series.

The 26-year-old has previously appeared for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL in 2023, scoring 452 runs and picking up six wickets. He then moved to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru the following year, hitting 255 runs and getting 10 wickets.
