Coco Gauff needed just 54 minutes to book her place in the second round at Wimbledon with a comfortable victory over Tamara Korpatsch.

Gauff, who was stunned in the opening round at the All England Club in 2025 by Dayana Yastremska, avoided another upset with a 6-2 6-1 win.

The American dominated from the off but missed three break opportunities in the fourth game.

However, she reeled off the final four games to take the early lead on Monday.

She maintained that momentum in the second set, winning the first five games before Korpatsch got herself on the board, but the damage had already been done.

Gauff sealed her progression by holding to love, and she will face Solana Sierra for a spot in the third round.

French Open champion Mirra Andreeva began her bid for a first Wimbledon title by beating Magda Linette in straight sets.

A beaten quarter-finalist at Wimbledon 12 months ago, Andreeva earned a 7-5 6-4 victory over Linette, and she will be joined in the next round by 10th seed Karolina Muchova.

Muchova claimed her 6-3 6-2 win against Anastasia Zakharova in just under an hour, and will face Shuai Zhang, who dumped out Bianca Andreescu.

Gauff serves up a storm

Appearing in her first grand slam without being a top-five seed since the 2023 US Open, Gauff put on a strong showing as she aims to try and reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon, the only major event she has failed to do so.

Seventh seed Gauff hit 19 winners to Korpatsch's four, while the 22-year-old only lost three points when she landed her first serve in the match.

Overall, Gauff only lost seven points in eight service games after struggling with that part of her game.

Andreeva, meanwhile, has now won 13 of her 14 opening women's singles matches at grand slam events, with her only defeat coming at Wimbledon in 2024 to Brenda Fruhvirtova.

Since she made her grand slam debut at Roland-Garros 2023, only Aryna Sabalenka (68), Iga Swiatek (57), Coco Gauff (48) and Elina Svitolina (42) have claimed more women's singles major match wins than Andreeva (39).
