Madison Keys failed to reach back-to-back quarter-finals at the French Open after losing to Diana Shnaider in the round of 16.

Twenty-two-year-old Shnaider won 6-3 3-6 6-0 in one hour and 46 minutes to set up a last-eight clash against either world number one Aryna Sabalenka or four-time grand slam champion Naomi Osaka.

It was a cagey start between Keys and Shnaider, with both players losing their opening two service games before the latter broke once more to win the first set.

The second, however, was a far different story as the only break of serve came in the eighth game, when Keys converted her third break point of the set to force a decider.

After saving two break points in the opening game of the third, Shnaider completely dominated Keys to win the set without dropping a game and clinch victory with her first match point.

Elsewhere at Roland-Garros, home favourite Diane Parry's run came to an end after she lost 6-3 6-2 against qualifier Maja Chwalinska.

The Pole will face Anna Kalinskaya in the quarter-finals after she defeated Anastasia Potapova 6-4 2-6 7-6 (10-6) in a near three-hour battle.

Data Debrief: Shnaider makes her grand slam mark

Shnaider, who dropped a set for the first time in the tournament this year, has now reached her first-ever grand slam quarter-final.

She ended an eight-game losing streak against WTA top-20 opponents in the process, but will certainly have her work cut out in the next round.

Meanwhile, this century, a qualifier (Chwalinska) has made the quarter-finals seven times at Roland-Garros, as many as in the other three majors combined in the period.

Chwalinska is also the fourth Polish player in the Open Era to reach the women's singles quarter-finals at grand slam events after Agnieszka Radwanska, Iga Swiatek and Magda Linette.
