
Former Wales coach Gatland takes up advisory role with Uruguayan side Penarol
Warren Gatland has joined the coaching staff of Uruguayan side Penarol in his first role since leaving Wales.
The 61-year-old, who left Wales in February after overseeing a record 14-match losing streak, will serve as an advisor to head coach Ivo Dugonjic for the upcoming Super Rugby Americas (SRA) play-off finals.
Penarol โ Uruguay's first professional club โ sit top of the SRA table, and will secure home advantage in the semi-finals with victory over Pampas in their final match of the regular season.
"Welcome Warren Gatland," the club wrote on social media. "The legendary New Zealand coach joins Penarol as an advisor to [head coach] Ivo Dugonjic and the entire Penarol staff to put all his knowledge to work for the team."

According to reports in South America, Gatland could also contribute to Uruguay's bid to reach the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
Los Teros play Paraguay in August for the right to play either Chile or Brazil for a place at the tournament in Australia.
