‘Exciting times ahead for England’, says Rashid

Adil Rashid believes the coming months will be “exciting times for England” following their T20I series win against Ireland.

The spinner was awarded player of the match after his 3-29 from four overs helped England record a six-wicket victory in the third T20I, securing a 2-0 series win.

England will face New Zealand in a three-match T20I series next month before the T20 World Cup in February, hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Rashid was pleased with how England performed during their white-ball series against Ireland as plenty of players showed promise across the two matches.

“There was a bit of purchase for the spinners but we bowled exceptionally well as a unit,” Rashid told TNT Sports.

“We had to adapt to what paces were required and as a group we did very well.

“We are all looking for to it [next year's T20 World Cup]. We have New Zealand and Sri Lanka so tough times ahead but exciting times for England as a group.”

One of the players who came back into the side and showed their quality was Jordan Cox.

The batter made his first international appearance since November 2024 after a series of injuries kept him out of the white-ball lineup, and also prevented him from making his Test debut in May.

Cox looked to have injured his knee while fielding in the first innings in Malahide, but he was determined to show out with the bat and did so after scoring 55 off 35 balls.

“There was no chance I wasn't going to bat because I might have to wait for another two years,” said Cox.

“Getting into this team is pretty tough. Hopefully it will be fine but I don't actually know as I've not seen physio yet.

“I'm not going to let the opportunity to play for my country go because I've got a sore knee. Just deal with it, battle on.”
