John Eustace felt Derby County should have been out of sight before half-time against Sheffield Wednesday, though he was still relieved to see the Rams' three-match winless run end with a 3-0 success.

Derby travelled to Hillsborough having tumbled down the table following a return of one point from their last three games, but they got back to winning ways in style.

Patrick Agyemang scored either side of half-time, while Liam Thompson was also on target early in the second half as Derby climbed back into the top half.

Derby were deserved victors, firing off 15 shots to Wednesday's three and amassing 1.64 expected goals (xG) to the Owls' meagre figure of 0.18.

The Rams created 0.66 of their tally in the first half, but Eustace felt they did enough to go into the interval with a more commanding lead. 

"I thought in the first half we got some really good opportunities, especially in the transitions, and we were very sloppy," Eustace told reporters.

"The game could have probably been out of sight really, with the amount of chances we had on the turnovers, just if our final pass or the finish was better.

"That would have been great. However, in the second half, I felt we controlled the game a lot more.

"When we did get those opportunities, we were finishing the actions and getting shots on target, so to win 3-0 is really pleasing."

While Derby are 12th in the table, Wednesday are still waiting on their first home win of the campaign and, after having a total of 18 points deducted, are 29 adrift of safety.

Owls boss Henrik Pedersen was disappointed to see his team struggle to replicate the performance they produced in last week's 1-1 draw with Watford at Vicarage Road.

He said: "We delivered really well at Watford, but we didn't reach the same levels today. 

"We had a good start, we were in control, but the first goal was an easy loss of the ball and a transition. We kept going after the first goal, but at 2-0 the game was done."
