Jack Draper crashed out of the Miami Open with a straight-sets defeat to Reilly Opelka in the second round on Friday.

The pair pushed each other to the limit, with both sets going to tie-breaks, but in the end, it was Opelka who triumphed 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-0) in one hour and 35 minutes.

In a fairly even start, Draper forced the first break point in the fifth game, but Opelka held his nerve to fend him off and stay on serve.

With the Brit also serving strongly, there was nothing to split the pair until the tie-break, with Opelka reeling off the final three points to take the lead.

It was a similar story in the second set, with neither player coming close to going a break up, but Draper's concentration just slipped at the prospect of another tie-break.

Opelka did not give Draper a sniff this time around, winning seven consecutive points to book himself a place in the next round.

Elsewhere, Casper Ruud was also stunned by an early exit, with Ethan Quinn booking his place in the third round of an ATP Masters 1000 event for the first time.

On a day heavily affected by rain delays, Quinn kept his composure to beat the former Miami Open finalist 6-4 7-6 (9-7) in one hour and 48 minutes.

Ruud ranked 12 is the highest-ranked opponent Quinn has defeated in his career; he was 0-5 against top-15 prior to this win.

Data Debrief: Too strong on serve

Both players put on a show on serve, with only one break point appearing throughout the full match, but Opelka's particular skill was the difference maker.

He hit 25 aces in total to Draper's seven, and won 87% of his first-serve points (47/54), while Draper boasted slightly less at 82% (37/45).
