The Arizona Diamondbacks are in agreement with star pitcher Corbin Burnes on a six-year, $210 million contract, according to sources.

The deal has an opt-out after two years and is the largest ever handed out by the Arizona organisation.

Burnes, 30, spent last season with the Baltimore Orioles and went 15-9 with a 2.92 ERA and 181 strikeouts in 194 1/3 innings while making his fourth straight All-Star team.

He won the 2021 NL Cy Young Award with the Milwaukee Brewers after going 11-5 with a league-leading 2.43 ERA and 234 strikeouts in 167 innings.

Burnes has finished in the top 10 in Cy Young voting each of the past five seasons with the Orioles and Brewers.

Since the pandemic-shortened season, he ranks third in innings pitched (816 2/3), second in strikeouts (946) and second in ERA (2.88) among pitchers to have thrown at least 500 innings.

Burnes, who lives in Scottsdale, Arizona, joins a Diamondbacks' rotation that already features Zac Gallen, Eduardo Rodriguez and Brandon Pfaadt.
