Defending champion Joao Fonseca has withdrawn from the 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals.

The 19-year-old Brazilian defeated Learner Tien in Jeddah 12 months ago to win the prestigious event for tennis' upcoming talent, with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner among previous winners.

However, the ATP confirmed that the prodigious teenager, who has won titles in Argentina and Switzerland this year, is still recovering from an injury sustained late in the season and will not travel to Saudi Arabia this time around.

Meanwhile, Jakub Mensik has booked his spot at the Next Gen ATP Finals for the second time.

The 20-year-old upset the odds to defeat Novak Djokovic in Miami earlier this year, becoming the second-youngest title-winner in the tournament's history, at just 19 years old at the time.

Mensik has four top-10 victories to his name in what has been a breakout 2025.

In quotes reported by the ATP official website, the Czech said: "I am super happy and super excited to qualify for the Next Gen ATP Finals for the second time.

"The whole year was really good for me, winning my first ATP title with the Masters 1000 in Miami. It was a really great run and makes it even more special finishing the year as a Top 20 player. I am really excited to see you guys in December in Jeddah."

Tien will also return to the event having booked his spot at the Finals.
