Alex de Minaur finally got over the line at the Rotterdam Open after downing Felix Auger-Aliassime with a straight-sets victory in Sunday's showpiece.

World number eight De Minaur had reached the last two finals at this event, losing to Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, but he made amends at the third time of asking.

Top seed De Minaur dominated on the indoor court, claiming a 6-3 6-2 victory in just one hour and 17 minutes.

Auger-Aliassime survived an early break point as the pair otherwise held service with ease, but De Minaur converted his next chance to break in game six, taking a 4-2 lead.

The Australian did not look back from that point on, with second seed Auger-Aliassime unable to create a single chance to break and dropping a set at this year's tournament for the first time.

Canada's Auger-Aliassime – a winner at this event for his maiden title in 2022 – failed to get going again in the second set and was broken once more to fall 3-2 behind.

And De Minaur refused to take his foot off the throttle, breaking in his opponent's next service game before taking his first match point with the ball in hand to seal a convincing victory.

Data Debrief: More ATP 500 success for De Minaur

De Minaur will always have fancied his chances here, having performed so well in ATP 500 events.

The 26-year-old extended his Tour-leading total to 53 wins in such events since the start of the 2023 season.

But Auger-Aliassime will be frustrated with this showing, given his 93 wins on indoor courts are the most of any player since the start of the 2020 season, helping him to eight such titles.

The Canadian also saw his eight-match winning streak halted, having lifted his first trophy of the season last time out in Montpellier.
