Coventry City 0-0 Sheffield Wednesday: Championship leaders' promotion party put on hold
Championship leaders Coventry City missed the chance to clinch promotion on Saturday after a frustrating goalless draw with bottom side Sheffield Wednesday.
Frank Lampard's side would have sealed their place in next season's Premier League with victory, coupled with fourth-place Middlesbrough failing to beat Portsmouth later on Saturday.
The hosts came closest to breaking the deadlock during the first half at the Coventry Building Society Arena. Liam Kitching's header was cleared off the line by Svante Ingelsson, while Brandon Thomas-Asante nodded over from a Haji Wright cross.
Wednesday almost snatched the lead early in the second half, with Jerry Yates volleying over Jaden Heskey's cross from inside the six-yard box.
However, it was Coventry who finished the stronger of the two sides, as they desperately pushed for the breakthrough.
Josh Eccles headed just wide from a Matt Grimes free-kick, while Ellis Simms' deflected overhead kick agonisingly clipped the outside of the post right at the death.

Data Debrief: More unwanted history for Wednesday
Despite their hard-earned point, Wednesday are now without victory in 37 matches in all competitions, the longest winless run in history by an EFL club.
In the league alone, the Owls also equal the longest winless streak of 36 games, matching Derby County from August 2008 and Macclesfield Town in October 2018.
Coventry dominated large periods of the contest. Though they registered a 2.64 xG and enjoyed 69.1% of possession, the Sky Blues were unable to break down their stubborn opponents.
