Bucsa ends wait for singles title as Stearns triumphs in Austin
Cristina Bucsa finally clinched a singles title as she overcame Magdalena Frech to triumph at the Merida Open.
Bucsa, who defeated Jasmine Paolini in the semi-finals, has plenty of doubles titles, but had not managed to claim a singles win at WTA 250 level or higher.
However, she ended that wait on Sunday, defeating Frech 6-1 4-6 6-4 in a tussle that lasted two hours and 15 minutes.
Bucsa's only previous singles title came at WTA 125 level, back in 2023.
Peyton Stearns claimed victory at the ATX Open to win her second WTA-level title.
Stearns, who attended the University of Texas close to Austin, prevailed 7-6 (10-8) 7-5 over fellow American Taylor Townsend.

Data Debrief: Brilliant week for Bucsa
Stearns made her first appearance in a Tour-level final since May 2024, while this marked her maiden appearance in a hard-court showpiece match.
Bucsa, meanwhile, completed a sweep in Merida by going on to triumph in the doubles final alongside Jiang Xinyu.
That is now eight doubles titles for Bucsa, from 12 finals with 10 different partners.
