Brighton 1-1 Everton: Birthday boy Beto rescues point with last-gasp equaliser
Beto snatched a last-gasp point for Everton, as his 97th-minute equaliser snatched a 1-1 draw with Brighton.
It looked like the hosts would claim only their second win in 11 Premier League games at the American Express Stadium.
However, Pascal Gross' first goal since returning to the club was cancelled out right at the death by birthday boy Beto.
Gross' 73rd-minute strike came against the run of play. Everton had failed to register a single attempt in the first half, but the Toffees showed more promise after the restart.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall drilled narrowly wide before he was denied by Bart Verbruggen from point-blank range following Thierno Barry's lay-off.
James Tarkowski also saw a header blocked on the line by team-mate Jake O'Brien, but the Toffees' hopes seemed to have been quashed when Gross swept home from Yasin Ayari's centre.
Yet in the seventh minute of stoppage time, Beto fired in a dramatic equaliser after Verbruggen could only parry O'Brien's initial effort straight to the substitute.

Data Debrief: Beto's late, late show
At 96 minutes and 20 seconds, Beto scored Everton's second-latest result-altering goal in a Premier League away match on record (since 2006-07), only behind Yerry Mina's equaliser at Wolves in May 2023 (98 minutes, 54 seconds).
Meanwhile, Brighton saw points snatched from under their nose for the second league game running, after Harry Wilson's stoppage-time free-kick condemned them to defeat at Fulham last weekend. The Seagulls are now winless in six league home games against Everton, which is their longest such run against any opponent in the top flight.
The expected goals battle tells its own story. Brighton, despite having 11 shots to Everton's seven, finished with only 1.29 xG to the visitors' 1.2.
Everton have failed to have a shot in the first half of a league match on three occasions this season, more than any other side.
Gross, though, enjoys facing Everton. He has recorded five Premier League goal involvements against them (three goals, two assists), only registering more in the competition against West Ham (10) and Manchester United (eight).
