Australian Open: Swiatek makes WTA Tour history as reigning champion Keys triumphs
Iga Swiatek achieved a first in the Open Era by beating Marie Bouzkova to reach round three of the Australian Open.
Swiatek, who is hunting the one major title missing from her collection, triumphed 6-2 6-3 in under 80 minutes on Thursday.
The Pole has now reached at least the third round at 24 successive grand slams, becoming the first woman in the Open Era to do so in the space of a decade.
Swiatek lost in the semi-finals last year in Melbourne, going down to eventual champion Madison Keys.
The reigning champion booked her progress to round three by beating he fellow American Ashlyn Krueger 6-1 7-5.
Joining Keys and Swiatek in claiming a straight-set win was Amanda Anisimova.
The world number four, a runner-up at Wimbledon and the US Open last year, downed Katerina Siniakova 6-1 6-4.
Paula Badosa, a semi-finalist at Melbourne Park in 2025, went down to world number 101 Oksana Selekhmeteva, but Jessica Pegula avoided a shock as she defeated her doubles partner McCartney Kessler 6-0 6-2.
"It's always tricky when you have to play someone that you know and like and also that you're playing doubles with," Pegula said. "That part was just unfortunate because we obviously want to see each other do well separately - but not when we have to play each other."

Data Debrief: Swiatek's streak rolls on
Swiatek is just the fourth woman in the Open Era to reach the round of 32 in 24 successive majors, after Martina Navratilova (35), Conchita Martinez (30) and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario (25).
She has now won 24 matches at the Australian Open. Only at Roland-Garros (40) has she won more matches.
The United States, meanwhile, became the first nation to have seven women reach the third round at the Australian Open since 2015, when the USA also had seven players reach the round of 32.
