Aston Villa have confirmed a double transfer swoop for Zion Suzuki and Matteo Ruggeri.

Suzuki has joined from Serie A club Parma, with Villa paying a reported £30m (€35m) for the goalkeeper, who featured for Japan at the World Cup.

Ruggeri, meanwhile, has joined from Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of £17m (€19.8m).

Villa have brought in Ruggeri as Lucas Digne's replacement, after the left-back joined Paris Saint-Germain.

Suzuki's arrival, meanwhile, could well mark the end of Emiliano Martinez's time at Villa. The Argentina international had been expected to join Juventus, but that transfer broke down.

The 23-year-old made 22 appearances for Parma last term, keeping six clean sheets and recording a goals prevented figure of -0.63.

Ruggeri played 47 times for Atletico, leading the way among Diego Simeone's defenders for duels contested (317), tackles attempted (93), tackles won (60) and interceptions (56).

He also created 44 chances, 17 more than any of his fellow Atletico defenders, and provided seven assists.

Villa open their Premier League campaign against Brighton on Sunday.
