Arsenal have strengthened their goalkeeping department with the signing of Illan Meslier from Leeds United.

The 26-year-old joins the Gunners on a free transfer after seven seasons with Leeds, and has reportedly signed a two-year deal at the Emirates Stadium.

Meslier's signing is set to allow Tommy Setford to leave on loan as the Frenchman will reportedly be Mikel Arteta's third-choice goalkeeper behind David Raya and Kepa Arrizabalaga, though the latter could also leave this summer.

Meslier has plenty of Premier League experience, making 107 appearances in the English top-flight and keeping 21 clean sheets for Leeds.

Overall, he kept 70 clean sheets in 215 matches for Leeds, achieving promotion twice from the Championship during his time at Elland Road.

"I’m extremely happy. It's a great day for me because I have just joined the champions. For me, Arsenal is the biggest club in England," Meslier told the club website.

"I'm very happy and very proud to join Arsenal. I cannot wait to show the love that I've got for this badge, and I cannot wait to win trophies with this team, becuase this is a club that needs to lift trophies again and again."

Arsenal face Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 16 before kicking off their Premier League title defence at home against newly promoted Coventry City five days later.
