Kimi Antonelli will not alter his approach or mindset as he closes in on the Formula One title.

Antonelli stormed to victory at the United States Grand Prix on Sunday, and he now has on hand on the title.

After his success in Austin, the Italian should take the crown in Mexico City to make F1 history.

Antonelli is set to become the youngest champion in F1, but the 20-year-old will not be changing how he goes about things.

"It was the perfect way to end the weekend. It was an incredible team effort," the Mercedes driver told Sky Sports F1.

"But really happy that we made it stick. [It] was a really important victory for me, for the team, especially after having a couple of difficult races, being back on top feels very good.

"The best way, the perfect way would be to finish off in style and then just enjoy the rest of the season.

"I'm very aware that it's very close but the mindset doesn't change. I want to finish the season on a high in order to then go with high hopes into 2027, but we'll first focus and worry about finishing this well and then we'll see."

With team-mate George Russell struggling, Antonelli thrived, and Mercedes chief Toto Wolff was astounded.

"Exceptional," Wolff said, "and I think he's outperformed the car.

"[It was] the best he has delivered so far... the race of a champion who isn't the champion yet."

Antonelli will be crowned champion this coming weekend if he does not lose more than 23 points to Russell, or 24 to Hamilton.

If Russell or Hamilton do not win in Mexico City, Antonelli will be champion regardless.

Russell finished eighth and rued a poor day on the track.

"The pace just was rubbish," he said. "That's the long and short of it. Of course, the five-second [penalty] didn't help things and probably cost me two or three positions but nevertheless, the pace was not good enough when it needed to be."
