Alcaraz overcomes slow start to beat Michelsen in Paris opener
Carlos Alcaraz has continued his recent hot streak by opening his Paris Masters campaign with a straight-sets win over Alex Michelsen.
The Spaniard earned his sixth win in a row – without dropping a set in any of them – as he recorded a 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 victory over Michelsen in one hour and 42 minutes.
The pair were evenly matched in the early stages, and though Alcaraz got the first break in the fifth game, Michelsen swiftly cancelled out that advantage in the next.
With neither able to get the better of their opponent's serve again in the first set, they went to a tie-break, with Michelsen racing into a 4-1 lead before Alcaraz reeled off the final six points to take the lead.
After matching each other beat for beat early in the second, Alcaraz then had to fend off a break point to take a 4-3 lead.
And that proved to be a vital save; it started Alcaraz on a three-game winning streak as he got over the line in his Paris opener on his second match point.

Alcaraz starts well in bid for first Paris title
The Paris Masters is one title that has so far evaded Alcaraz, but with some of the big hitters already knocked out – Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Frances Tiafoe, Alex De Minaur, Rafael Jodar and Novak Djokovic – and Jannik Sinner injured, he will feel he has a very good chance.
The former world number one claimed his fourth title of 2026 at the weekend, triumphing at the Vienna Open, and he is picking up a head of steam at the right time.
In fact, he is 39-5 for the season, and has shown few signs of flagging following his return from the wrist injury that ruled him out for much of the season.
Alcaraz is one of just three top-10 seeds remaining in the draw, and next up for him is Matteo Berrettini, who knocked out Ugo Humbert after a 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 win earlier on Wednesday.
