Carlos Alcaraz completed a perfect season at ATP 500 level as he downed Alex De Minaur to claim the Vienna Open title in straight sets.

The Spaniard was on top from the very start in his 6-1 6-4 victory, seeing off De Minaur in just 97 minutes.

Alcaraz reeled off the first four games, fending off a break point along the way, before De Minaur got himself on the board in the fifth.

However, he had no way of stopping Alcaraz's momentum, and while he defended the first set point, he could do nothing about the second.

De Minaur attempted to fight back in the second, forcing two more break points, but he could not convert them to put extra pressure on Alcaraz.

And the former world number one clinched the trophy with a break of his own, completing a perfect week in Vienna, where he did not drop a single set.

"I tried to be aggressive and show him that if he wants to win, he has to play better [than me], more aggressive, more solid, and be smarter than me," Alcaraz said.

"I'm just really happy that at the end I found my way, played great, and obviously it has been a really emotional and amazing week for me.

"I learned a lot, to keep going forward, step by step, playing on indoor courts, and trying to gain more confidence playing on this surface."

There was also victory for Valentin Vacherot in Basel as he came from behind to beat Jiri Lehecka 2-6 6-3 6-3 in just under two hours.

He dropped serve three times in the first set, but rallied brilliantly to get his hands on just a second ATP Tour crown.

Alcaraz keeps picking up speed on return

Despite missing a large chunk of the season with a wrist injury, Alcaraz has taken little time to settle back into his rhythm since returning to the ATP Tour.

And his latest triumph in Vienna means that he has won all 16 of his matches at ATP 500 events, a tally which also includes title runs in Doha and Tokyo.

Overall, he is on a 26-match winning streak at this level since losing the Barcelona championship match back in April 2025.

He has racked up 11 titles at ATP 500 events, with only the 'big three' of Roger Federer (16), Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal (both 15) winning more than him.

There was also history for Vacherot, who became the first Monegasque player to win an ATP 500 title since the series first began in 2009.
