Alexander Zverev stormed into the third round of the Miami Open with a convincing straight-sets win over Jacob Fearnley.

Zverev downed Fearnley en route to reaching the Australian Open final, and the German made light work of the Brit with a 6-2 6-4 victory on Saturday.

The 74-minute victory saw the top seed bounce back from his shock defeat to Tallon Griekspoor at the Indian Wells Open.

"I'm generally happy with my level today," said Zverev. "In Indian Wells it was very different, so I hope I can continue playing this way and have a great week here."

Taylor Fritz got back to winning ways with a 7-6 (7-2) 6-3 victory over Lorenzo Sonego.

The American number one, who has only reached one ATP Masters 1000 final, did not offer up a single break point as he found his form on serve on the back of his defeat to Jack Draper at Indian Wells.

There was no such luck for Fritz's compatriot Ben Shelton, who was on the end of a shock defeat to Coleman Wong.

The 20-year-old wildcard triumphed 7-6 (7-3) 2-6 7-6 (7-5) to claim the biggest win of his career.

Data Debrief: Zverev makes national history

Zverev now has 145 match wins at Masters 1000 level to his name, moving him clear of Tommy Haas (144) as the German with the most such victories.

The 27-year-old has a 70% win rate at such tournaments.

He is one of just four active players with a 70+ win percentage at this level, along with Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
