The Indian Premier League has been suspended for one week due to safety concerns, amid the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan.

India has accused Pakistan of carrying out drone and missile attacks on three military bases in India and Indian-administered Kashmir, which Islamabad has denied.

That comes after India carried out missile strikes on Pakistan on Wednesday, saying those measures were a response to an attack on Indian tourists in Pakistan last month.

Thursday's IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala was abandoned due to floodlight failure, and players, staff and media are reportedly set to be evacuated from the city. In light of the escalating tensions, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now opted to suspend all fixtures.

In a statement, the BCCI said: "The decision was taken by the IPL governing council after due consultation with all key stakeholders following the representations from most of the franchises, who conveyed the concerns and sentiments of their players, and also the views of the broadcaster, sponsors and fans.

"While the BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the board considers it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders.

"Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation, in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders."

There are 16 games still to be played in the 2025 IPL, which was due to run until May 25.

Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru occupy the top two places in the league table with 16 points, one more than the Punjab Kings in third.

Mumbai Indians currently occupy the fourth and final play-off position with 14 points, one clear of Delhi Capitals, who have played one game fewer than Mumbai.

Most teams have two more group games to play, with Gujarat, Bengaluru, Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad having three remaining.
