Stephen Curry was "crushed" after suffering a hamstring strain during the Golden State Warriors' victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves and is now doubtful for Game 2 of the series.

The Warriors claimed a 99-88 victory in the first game of the teams' second-round series on Tuesday, with Buddy Hield scoring 24 points and Jimmy Butler adding 20.

Golden State used 12 players throughout the game, digging deep after Curry limped off the court holding his left leg early in the second quarter.

The team swiftly ruled their four-time champion out for the remainder of the game, and head coach Steve Kerr does not expect him to suit up at Target Center on Thursday.

"We don't know yet," Kerr said when asked to put a timeline on Curry's recovery. "But with a hamstring, it's hard to imagine that he would play Thursday.

"He's obviously crushed, but the guys picked him up and played a great game and obviously we're all concerned about Steph, but it's part of the game."

No home team has won in the second round of this year's NBA Playoffs to date. Excluding the 2020 bubble, this is the first time in playoff history that road teams have won multiple games without a loss for three consecutive days.

While Butler is desperate to see Curry return, he believes the team will continue to dig deep without their star man, saying: "I think we all want 30 back, that is for sure.

"But we want him to do his best for himself, best for our group. Until then, we can hold down the fort. I know we can."

Minnesota center Rudy Gobert, who was held to nine points and 11 rebounds, was also impressed by the Warriors' reaction to Curry's injury.

"I didn't see any change in their approach," he said. "Obviously, Steph is Steph, but they were playing like their life depended on it since the beginning of the game and I didn't feel that for us early on."

But Wolves coach Chris Finch chose to call out the performance of Anthony Edwards, who had a team-high 23 points but only made one of his five 3-point attempts and shot nine-of-22 from the field.

"It starts with Ant," Finch said. "I thought he struggled, and then you could just see the light go out a little bit for a while.

"You're the leader of the team. You've got to come out and set the tone. If your shot is not going, you still have to carry the energy.

"If I've got to talk to guys about having the right energy coming into an opening second-round game, then we're not on the same page."
