Thomas Frank was full of praise for attackers Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa after the duo inspired Brentford’s 4-2 victory over Brighton.

Mbeumo and Wissa sit on 18 and 16 league goals respectively this season, with both players scoring in seven separate Premier League matches this term.

Winger Mbeumo scored a brace and teed up Wissa for a goal of his own at the Gtech Community Stadium, and the Cameroon international has now been involved in 24 Premier League goals this term, the joint-most by a player for Brentford in a single season in the competition along with Ivan Toney in 2022-23.

Christian Norgaard added the Bees’ fourth, with Danny Welbeck and Kaoru Mitoma netting for Brighton.

Joao Pedro was sent off, before Jan Paul van Hecke was stretchered off after a serious head collision in injury time.

On the form of his front two, Frank said: “All praise to the two of them for the hard work, how much they push.

“Then, of course, to my staff and the way we play. When you consistently over the last six seasons have produced top scorers, there must be something we're doing right.

“It was a very big win. I said before the game to the players, just win. Of course, I hope to win every game and we try to win every game. But it's always about performances first and foremost, and that's what we have done consistently.”

Fabian Hurzeler faced some dissenting chants from the Brighton fans when he replaced goalscorer Welbeck in the second half.

Welbeck had netted his ninth Premier League goal of the season, his joint-best return in a campaign in the competition, along with 2011-12 and 2013-14.

Brighton are now winless in five Premier League games, but he insisted he was not too dissatisfied with their efforts.

Hurzeler said: “That is fine if they [the fans] have their opinion.

“I wanted to have more midfielders on the pitch to control the game more. I think the team played well after that. We scored the second goal, we had a big chance with Kaoru to make the third goal.

“We had the penalty situation with Lewis [Dunk] so there were a lot of positive things after the subs.”
